They were missionaries in the St. Louis Missouri Mission, and very good ones at that! He was her district leader for six weeks, and then they parted ways.
Post mission, David and Emily kept in touch with each other through email and the yearly mission reunion. Nothing much happened between the two. Emily was in Washington--David was in California.
But in 2008, the stars began to align to bring the two together. First of all, they both moved to Provo, Utah. David was working and Emily was starting the MBA program at BYU. Then, a mutual mission friend started bugging them to date each other. Finally, on October 18, 2008, David asked Emily to go to the movies with him. Sparks flew, mountains moved, and rivers changed course! (Or so it seemed.) A week later, they were "official." And the rest is history!
